Ok, two monsters really, but I'll get to that.Last night, we had time for a couple of filler games, and one of our regulars had just gotten his copy of King of Tokyo and the Power-Up expansion, so we decided to break that out.
First game was kind of slow, only the owner of the game and I had played before, and my experience was limited to a single game, about 6 months ago.
In turn order:
Meka-Dragon - Owner
Kraken - C
Cyber Bunny - A
Megazaur - me
We all tried to get the new evolution cards and stay out of Tokyo, but the dice forced Cyberbunny in early. We nickeled and dimed at him with little effect, while he steadily gained points. Meka had gained several useful evolutions, while also keeping himself near full hit points. The rest of us had a card or two, but nothing really spectacular, and it was pretty even with it looking like Meka might run away with it. (He had the most HPs, and the highest score). After a few rounds of that, Meka had done some damage to Kraken in Tokyo, nearly killing him (2-3 HPs left). We were all getting down in HPs, with Meka and Mega being both around 6.
Once Meka was in Tokyo, both Kraken and Cyber did some damage to him by the time it came around to me. I had been hanging back, doing very little damage, but rebiulding my HPs and getting a couple of cards in the process. I went all out for damage, managed to get just enough to finish off Meka, and get myself into Tokyo. I was already in the points lead at the time. Both Kraken and Cyber tried to heal up a bit, with little to no effect. My next turn, I went all out for damage again, and took advantage of my cards (re-rolls and dmg bonuses) to boost it as much as I could. I managed to knock both of the other monsters out in one round. I claimed King of Tokyo with 15 points, and the only monster standing.
The second game was very similar, I slow played it, never got a single evo card, but managed to accumulate 3 regular upgrades (armor, wings, Friend of children). The friend of children really helped with my wings, and I barely took any damage the whole game, using the wings to dodge anything over 2 pts of damage. This game was a knock down drag out.... Once Kraken got nuclear breath, Cyber called in an airstrike, which damaged everyone (except me and my wings), finishing off Meka again, and bringing both Cyber and Kraken under 4 HPs. Cyber got into Tokyo with that move, making him an easy target. I attacked all out, and managed to get almost a full hand of claws! Since Kraken was doing damage to everyone with nuclear breath anyway (and it was down to just us two again), there was no reason not to claim Tokyo for the point. Kraken breathed, I flew and dodged it all (I had saved up a lot of energy). It went two more rounds, but with me being able to dodge anything more than 1 point, and the armor handling that, it was pretty well a foregone conclusion.
Megazaur went 2-0 as King of Tokyo. RRaaawwwwrrrrrrr!
Analyzing the game, I think Kraken could have won it pretty easily if he'd spent just a little more time preparing before going for the all out assault. He had nuclear breath already, some evolution cards that let him reroll some dice, Psychic probe allowing him to reroll one of anyone else's dice, and most importantly, parasitic tentacles. If he had gone for energy to steal my wings, I think he would have been unbeatable.
