I probably should have left Tokyo on the first attack, but did not know that (a new player mistake), but it only cost me one life.

By the time it was my second turn my life was down by half.
Why?
Because there's a big gap between "it only cost me one life" and "my life was down by half". But maybe "it" refers to "the first attack" whereas I was assuming it meant "the decision to not leave Tokyo".

But in any case, it sounds like you take your games very seriously. That's the reason I think this game may not be for you.
Why?
You may be the exception, but I don't think this game would do well by folks who take it too seriously. And
...I had been getting help from the first player eliminated (who plays the game a lot and commented that often this early, undeserved, elimination occurs) so I do not think I had made any major mistakes. I realize that often new players think this, but I talked with the other players and they agreed that my rerolls and moves were all reasonable.
Ironically, I'm trying to defend the game from the OP's attacks, but I just checked the numeric ratings both the OP and I gave the game, and the two ratings are... identical! Both of us gave it a 6.
