I would say the damage happens to all mosnters all at once. So it should only do +1 one time.

I'm thinking of having a sculptor create minitures matching the monsters in King of Tokyo and then mass manufacture them and sell them as improvements for the game. Would anyone be interested in buying such figures?

How much would you be willing to pay for them?

Yes.

And, that would depend on the size, quality, and material.

Also, I would suggest you might want to get iEllo's permission unless their likenesses are going to be so unlike the original artwork that I then wouldn't want them.

mass manufacturing an unofficial, unlicensed add-on for a single, and "non fanatical" game... One that's about to be superceded by King Of New York at that... economically speaking, that sounds like a dreadful idea.

I strongly agree with both of Scott's points.

I would LOVE to have minis for that game. I'm always a sucker for spending money to make a game look cooler.

However, Scott has correctly pointed out 2 factors. They'd need to look very much like the originals in order for people to want them. But if you're making them look like the originals, you'd better get permission from the owners/creators of the images in question, if you're going to make money off of them. In general, I don't think companies care how we individually pimp our games for our own private use, but when it gets big & money starts changing hands, that's a different story.

Why all the heat? I was just asking a question.

My thoughts were more in the line of: They are using monsters from movies, video games and makebelief. Who is to say they have the exclusive rights to them?

Gigazaur - Godzilla
The King - King kong
Kraken - Cthulhu
and so on...

As long as I don't market them as King of Tokyo accessories wouldn't it be all right?

http://www.litko.net/ Sells stuff for popular games using the phrase "compatible game system"

Not heat. Just advice.

The point is that the artwork, whilst based on, is not a direct depiction of those more familiar monsters.

For myself to be interested in buying minis for the game they would have to look exactly like the artwork in the game.

But, if you were to produce such minis, and sell them openly, then I suspect you would, in no short order, be receiving a cease and desist letter from iEllo's lawyers.

So, all I am saying is that if you want to make exact depictions of the monsters in the game, then seek the permission of iEllo first, so that does not happen.

True, but the designs of, and the artwork on, the stuff they sell does not breach the copyright and other IP rights of the designers, producers, and publishers of the games that stuff is compatible with.

In short: We think figures of the monsters in the game are a great idea and we'd love to buy them, but we suspect you will run in to legal problems if you create and then sell such figures openly.

Iello has been dabbling in miniatures last year (guardians chronicles & zombie15).
I wouldn't be surprised if they are working on official miniatures for the king of tokyo.
(In my opinion their efforts so far are pretty abysmal though.:shake:
They are however trying to correct the problems with Guardians Chronicles.)

Also I believe the warning you received is valid. I'm pretty sure Iello has asked BGG to remove A user submitted map from this site. They appear to be a little bit overprotective of their assets, especially King of Tokyo.

And by the way, I would buy a set!

Definitely agree on Power Up, it makes the game much better in my opinion. The Halloween expansion isn't great though imo.

It's still factory sealed. I can open it if you want. The first one showing is Akiro's Favor. The one showing on the Kickstarter page is called Hurl Meteorite. I can open and tell you the others if you want.

P.S. One hell of a win!

Sorry to derail this thread, but with your group being MtG players, have you thought of trying Mage Wars?

I have not, but it looks interesting. That and Summoner Wars look like they might be fun. The problem is that there are no game stores where we live so there's no way for me to try out games unless there's an online demo, which is rare, or someone just happens to have a game, which is also rare.

My friends all like the game and I think the guy that owns it will probably get it. We played some more the last couple of days and even though I won a couple of games, I was kind of getting bored with it already. So much of it comes down to the luck of the dice that it's hard to have any real strategy. There was a game last night were I was in Tokyo, I had Two Heads and Omnivore (I think, the one were you do an extra point of damage to everyone when you're in Tokyo) and all I wanted to do is roll some claws and after rolling seven dice three times, I only got one. It's a funny game and all, but I think it's going to be like Munchkin were it's really fun for a while but then gets stale. I won't mind playing it when someone brings it out, but I'm glad I didn't buy it myself. Maybe King of New York will be better.
