Yeah, 1st Edition Acid Attack said "Deal 1 extra damage each turn (even when you don't otherwise attack)."

And the FAQ answer said:

"This card activates as soon as it is purchased and is applicable only on the turn of the player who owns the card. Additionally, this card doesn't affect entering or leaving Tokyo. Only Attacking someone (with dice) affects the King of Tokyo."

Which is reasonable, given the wording of the 1st Edition card. I suspect that they specifically changed wording to work with the 2nd Edition rules--you don't need to roll [claw] to enter Tokyo if it is empty; you do need be damaged by a [claw] rolled to leave Tokyo, but the current wording of Acid Attack works with that, as you add [claw] to your roll. As if you rolled it.
