I don't think it is so much that this has opened an old wound as much as my experience with Pandemic has given me a perspective that many, especially newer people to the hobby, have not experienced. Specifically the perspective that a game like KoT that gets lots of plays and is very simple will become dull and needs expansion content to stay interesting. As was the case with Pandemic, if that content ceases to be compatible, KoT will mostly die out for me.You can even see this stark difference in perspective from Cornixt's comments above. He essentially says why worry about future content when you can enjoy the game you have. What he doesn't realize is that I didn't just pick this game up. I have owned KoT since it came out in 2011, and in the last 5+ years have probably gotten close to 100 plays out of it. I like the game a lot, but I also recognize that it needs more content to stay interesting to me.
I also don't have any personal agenda against Iello, and I even picked up the recent KoNY expansion because it adds that longevity I need to both games and is a good value. That being said, I know that new monsters can only do so much, and Iello will likely provide more substantial content for this game in the future (for instance a way to use the monster types found on the PU cards). Because of this, I am concerned that their decisions now will ultimately continue to lead to compatibility issues in the future and effectively kill this game for me. I may be wrong, but their handling of the 2nd edition, for me, doesn't inspire much confidence.
