My opinion is to always keep things how they are in the regular game. Game designers tend not to get things wrong (especially when they are Dr. Garfield)
Uhhhh, Richard Garfield is a great designer. I play Magic and think it's the greatest game, but that doesn't make Garfield infallible. He designed Rocketville, as well Black Lotus, Time Walk, Ancestral Recall, Mox Emerald, Mox Pearl...

A game is never perfect, but there comes a time when you have to publish it. Mark Rosewater, the head designer for Magic says that their R&D can never playtest a set enough to learn everything about it, and they are often surprised.

I create variants because I enjoy doing so. If you don't, that's great, but I don't understand why you are posting in my forum telling me I'm doing something wrong...
