Just wanted to get confirmation we played this correctly.
When Mimic is first purchased you choose another card to place the mimic token on and then can later pay to move the token.
Situation came up where Mimic was bought before any other cards were out. I assumed that Mimic would have to place the token on itself (without of course the infinite loop of it creating a new token and having to place it on itself forever)... and then argued that the player would have to pay to move it later. The player wanted to argue that they got to a) keep the token off the card and b) place it the first time for free.
Just wanted to see how people would interpret this situation, thanks!

Since there is nothing to mimic when the card is first played, the action is cancelled and considered finish.
The cost must be paid to mimic a new card that is brought in play.
