I didn't mention this before, but if asked if I would buy the game for only two players then I would say no (I'd probably go for Martian Dice in this case). KoT game really shines with more playersThat said, I do find the simplicity with two players kind of refreshing. While in Tokyo do I stay and risk not being able to heal in order to get those victory points? Outside of Tokyo do I attack with few claws and risk going to Tokyo or try to attack indirectly instead through cards to whittle away at your opponents hearts and hope for a big assault next turn?
On the third roll of the dice you have no choice, but what are you going to strive for with the first two rolls? Too often I see others keeping a lone three and throwing away claws and energy.
It's a pretty simple game to try out by using just a few dice and some markers for player pieces and energy. You could make up a few simple cards out of paper. This would give you an idea about the mechanics of the game. You'll have to keep in mind though that those big chunky monster pieces really do add a lot to the theme and overall enjoyment.
