I have to say King of Tokyo has given me a very fond memory (Beyond giving m family a humiliating defeat. 4 games and I have won 3 (losing to my brother in a 19-20 match)Thing is I was very surprised by the outcome this game had. Several years ago I was looking for a game and the choice was down to KoT or Smash up, I purchased Smash up. I figured i would be a fun game to play wit my friends and It was. Getting all the expansions to date (Bar munchkin because of reasons) Anyway when my dad proposed a Family game night after Christmas I decided to search my games for something fun. Something other than Monopoly or clue, ad while we do enjoy Cards against humanity and Exploding kittens, I would grow tired of it if we played it every monday.
So I decided to put my money down and buy a new game... King of Tokyo. Having awards like "Best Family game" from dice tower or the "Major fun award" i felt it would be great. Even as cartoony as the game is. Of course I did fear that my Family would not enjoy the game. After all I know Smash up is not their style and I was worried it would be a waste.
I was gladly mistaken. A quick read of the rules and a first game and my family and I were having a blast. My worry that my family would see it is a childish game was dismissed as we all had our on stratge set in mind. Myself Playing as Gigazaur, My Borther Taking Cyber Bunny, My sister Driving Meka Dragon, My mom playing the King and my Father Taking to role of the Kraken.
I still can't get over how well my family adjusted to the game. It is truly a refreshing sight to have something we have never had a similar experience with. Monopoly is a LONG GAME and clue, as fun as it is, has been played to death in my family. Still, something I thought I would regret turned out to be excellent.
I am curious what urged you to purchase or play KoT? How has your experience with the game been?
