So as you are probably aware, a new KoT edition with new art was released that created a whole host of comparability issues.First off, was the art overhaul to match the app and KoNY art. However, this change also meant changes to the card backs as they featured that art. Iello came back saying that it wasn't a huge deal because only the promo cards and a few cards in the Halloween expansion go in that deck anyway, and there were no plans for any future expansions that would add cards to the main deck. In other words, the art should largely not affect the different editions.
However, the big kicker was the swapping of Cyber Bunny for Cyber Kitty and Kraken for Space Penguin. This switch meant that older edition owners would have unsupported characters going forward that would have to be proxied as the new ones if they wanted to use future content and didn't rebuy the game and 2nd edition of the Power Up expansion. Iello has always claimed that this change, while undesirable, was required due to legal issues regarding Cyber Bunny and that the could no longer use him.
Now that the Power Up 2.0 expansion is announced, Iello is discussing the details of what is actually included. Up until this point they have claimed that there would be no support for the old monsters, but that this version would mirror the KoNY version by having powers for each monster to use in both games. As it turns out that is not the case; KoNY will not be represented in any way, and those cross-over powers will presumably be sold separately in the future. Instead they have decided to include the powers for the original two monsters (Cyber Bunny and Kraken) in addition to the new 6.
That is all well and good except it goes in the face of what they said previously in that they could no longer use the Cyber Bunny name. In other words, if they can continue to use the name, why did they switch the characters in the new edition, creating all these issues? If they had left them unchanged, there wouldn't have been a need for a new Power Up (Pandakai's art is unchanged), and there wouldn't any concerns of future support for the old monsters.
I am not saying they are necessarily trying to rip us off, but they have so far completely avoided responding to the issue despite responding to others, and that to me is worrying. I, admittedly, have always had issues with the new edition, and I felt like it was a cash grab when it was announced. After the discussion of the legal issues, I came to terms with the fact that maybe it was unavoidable. However, this new information seems to completely contradict that excuse so now I think we deserve for Iello to tell us what exactly is going on.
