This is not a game of direct conflict per se. Adding a memory element to a game where the knowledge is public is just nuts. If they flip their boards over, why not pull out a pad and track the stats for everyone?Next, even if you know a player is leading, its very hard to directly stop that person. Several people can team up, but one player being able to stop another is very hard. This was part of the design Garfield was very proud of. He hated games that became "political" that is to say a lot of "look at Tom, he's leading stop him" "But I am not leading and Sue has better powers, she is more of a threat, stop her". In King of Tokyo you can only hit people on the other side of Tokyo. So even if you know someone is winning, trying to stop them is tough, unless they put themselves in a position to get hurt (enter Tokyo).
Making all the more reason to just keep your boards where everyone can see them.
