Thought I'd post a few tips. If you have more, feel free to post them here.If you are trying for 3 of a kind, go all in.
If, for example, you decide to keep the 2 2s from your first roll (in hopes of getting a 3rd 2) reroll the other 4 dice. Don’t fall to the temptation to keep other dice like energy or hearts. If you really need the hearts, maybe you should be rerolling the 2s. This is a guideline, there are special situations where it can be bent. Maybe you need only 1 more energy to buy that cool card, or you’re keeping 3s and you have the Background Dweller card that lets you re-roll 3s. Just don’t let keeping other dice, when going for 3 of a kind for the fame, become a habit. (Note: once you have 3 of a kind, feel free to keep other dice.)
If you aint going to win with fame, reroll all numbers.
If at some point you realize that there is no way you are going to win with fame, maybe you only have 2 fame when most of the other monsters are in double digits, then there is no reason to pursue fame. So re-roll all numbers, even if you have 3 3s.
With 5 monsters, often it better to be in Tokyo.
With 5 monsters, there are 2 in Tokyo/bay and 3 outside Tokyo. If monsters outside Tokyo believe they are low on hearts, they often choose to concentrate on rolling hearts and avoid going to Tokyo by rerolling claws. This will mean the monsters in Tokyo/bay are taking little damage and therefore have little incentive to leave. If the 2 monsters in Tokyo/bay (who aren’t helped by hearts) concentrate on claws, the monsters outside of Tokyo will find that they have only 1 turn (their own) of hearts to repair 2 turns of damage from claws. This is not a recipe for success. I have been in several games where this situation occurred. It usually ended with the death of 1 or more of the monsters outside of Tokyo. A corollary to this tip: if you find your monster outside of Tokyo when this situation occurs, strongly consider attacking (keeping claws) even if your hearts are low.
