So nobody has every played a game (not necessarily KoT) where you introduced it to new players, the game went in an unusual direction (too quick; too lopsided; or even too long and dragged out), leaving a bad taste in the n00bs' mouths such that they refused to try it again as they couldn't see how it could be more fun than another game? Even my GF has had some "bad first impressions" that have prevented her from trying a game for a second time.

I have certainly had that experience.

However, it's more common for new players to object to games that are too long, or have too much calculation, or too many new concepts. Of course, it's a skill to match a group of new players with just the right game. But I don't remember people complaining that a game was too quick, or that it had too much luck (at least not for a game like King of Tokyo that has plenty of real decisions.)
