Wow. That's a lot of hate against Kickstarter.

Personally, I think it's an awesome model for how I'd like society to work. If a company is going to make something that people want, why shouldn't they ask people to invest in the project? Did you read the Zombie 15' KS page? By getting more money up front, they can reduce the price for everyone and make higher quality components and add extra stuff.

If they had had a Kickstarter campaign for King of Tokyo, they probably would have had the etched dice in the first edition, saving people the irritation of having their dice wearing out.

That still doesn't invalidate cbazler's point though.

Not all ks's are that way, but an amazing amount are how he has described them, which hurts ks as a whole which ideally is a brilliant idea for both the company and backers.

The incentives in general aren't that great nowadays. This for example is the same. If they threw in the powerup cards for this, then you have an incentive.

But, merely in my opinion, a really dumb looking zombie to add to the game simply because it is an iello production without any further game play is not much incentive. personally, id rather print out a stay puft marshmallow man or create other monsters than this rather thin and I'll conceived tie in between games. Alpha zombie is not daikaiju.

Really the only incentive for KS should be wanting to help ensure the game's release. But publishers started putting in a few extra things to try to entice more folks into wanting to support the release and now it's expected and it's also spun way out of control.

I don't back many KS games, especially if it's already reached it's funding goal (unless the KS copy is coming out way early and I don't want to wai.....haven't run into this yet personally, but I'd jump in). The zombie promo would be super-cool since I love King of Tokyo, but I can't see myself backing the game since it's already funded...and I am not sure my friends would enjoy it since it basically looks like an overly fiddly, complex zombified version of Escape: The Curse of the Temple. Escape seems more sleek and fun.
