The last few games have been big ones - usually 5+. And my strategies don't help a whole lot if I get killed randomly early on.

Understand: I don't mind the getting killed part, it's the getting killed and then sitting around for 30-45 minutes on my hands. I watched two players duel it out for like 20 minutes, going in and out of tokyo, damaging, healing, damaging, healing. One guy had Wings and kept avoiding taking damage by always making sure to have 2 cubes handy. The other person took damage, healed, took damage, healed, etc. With two players constantly swinging in and out, they'd get 1 vp apiece per turn.
If the game is going from 5+ to 2 in a turn or two, I think strategy is a big problem with your group. You need to think about wiping the cards if something very powerful is out (ie Wings). Additionally the only way I could see so many people being wiped out so fast is not attacking the person(s) in Tokyo. If it is the people in Tokyo dying, don't forget that you don't use Tokyo Bay after the game is down to 4 or less.
