If you had gone on the offense against Kracken it might have forced the big bully out of Tokyo or if you had gone for more cards, there might have been help there. any game that has strategic choices can turn on you if those choices fail.
With only 4 life, nobody wanted to go into Tokyo. I don't think charging into Tokyo with only 4 life would have been wise. The one who did was the first to die.
Perhaps we should have hit the Kraken before she had a chance to hit us. Nobody was expecting the uber-Yahtzee of 6 hits. But it is my GF's default strategy: get into Tokyo early and then hit everyone as hard as possible. This is the first time I've seen her pull it off. And the fact she was able to heal effectively when she retreated was also very lucky (in fact, she rolled 5 hearts one time, then re-rolled the ones she didn't need).
If this game occurred with our regular players, we would have just played again. Unfortunately, two of the four players were new and aren't fans of direct conflict or player elimination.
Ugghh wrong folk to introduce the game too then! Learning experience I hope on what introducing what kind of games to people you know.
