Hello,I would say that what you're experiencing is pretty normal. Getting energy and buying cards isn't usually the predominant strategy. Many of the cards are expensive for what you get, so hoarding energy is something normally done sort of incidentally.
Since buying cards is fun, many people have come up with variants to encourage it or give out more energy. For example, I have made my own deck where most of the cards are cheaper.
