We play by stating what we are doing.
Rolling, Re-rolling, resolving/not re-rolling, wiping the cards, going to buy a card, buying this card, going to buy again, buying this card...
Never ever have we had a time where someone was playing aggressively fast and OhMyGoogI'mPlayingThishCardOnYouNow-ing. The opposite in fact. It creates a nice steady pace to the game play. If you missed your chance to play a card that would have changed an now resolved effect, to bad. You missed it and had notification of what was going on.

To quote you:
That is not KoT
Or, rather, that is to say, I personally find it very unlikely that the majority of KoT players, particularly those at the lower end of the stated "8+" age range for the game, play in that way.
It seems to me that KoT is a light, take-that, push-you-luck, filler game that is meant to played in a fun, loose, and relaxed manner.
Not as though it were some seriously deep tournament level euro.
The act of saying what we are doing sounds more clinical in writing then it actually is. There is still conversations going on and sound effects being made for the monsters or cards. It works real well with children and non-gamers.
I've played KoT with many different kids. Some under the age recommendation. They have all understood the player winning as soon as they get 20:star: and you can't heal after you are dead. Or maybe it never came up when playing with kids.
I feel that the way we are playing it is even more laid back and casual than the way you want it played. Your way has this mentality of "Wait. What just happened? No. I have a card that could have stopped that to play." While we play with a more "What just happened? Oh well. I'll get you next time."
