While I do enjoy a good rules debate I feel that your comments have crossed the line. I don't think it is ever appropriate to call someone a dumbass because of a difference in rules interpretation. These type of discussions can be enlightening in seeing how people think about the rules, but the point at which we should stop debating is probably before any ad hominem attacks occur.
I would suggest that we let this thread lie.
If the search for a "one true answer" is truly necessary, maybe someone from those tournaments or IELLO would be kind enough to mention what is appropriate tournament play, then we can rest easy and go back to playing in the way that makes our play groups happier, whether it be serious strategic foresight or surprising moments of drama.
