The first gaming session of the year was last night and we had a decent turnout of myself, Jason, Graham, Mara, Chris, Will and Andy.

Incan Gold
Simon bought this along to games night a few months ago and it was really popular. A simple and fun push your luck game that I really, really love. The temptation to push on or retreat is made more interesting by sharing any leftover treasure with those that run with you. Is it worth running early to take the lot or should you wait it out and risk sharing with another retreating player? Myself, Jason, Chris and Will played; I forget the final scores but believe Jason won.

King Of Tokyo
I got the Power Up! expansion for Christmas so we delved into a game with the new Evolution cards which meant everybody spent the early game rolling for hearts to see what they did. As is usual I lost (still yet to win a game of this after 12 plays) and my memory again fails me as I can't remember who won.

Graham and Mara joined us at this point so we started a 6 player game. I took a pretty good lead until Mara hit me with a big attack for 5 damage, I tried hanging on but I was gone before long thanks to Mara's Fire Breathing card. Will ended up with 3 Evolution cards and about 7 power cards which allowed him to do big damage to Graham each turn who tried desperately to reach 20 VP before getting killed. He failed.

Hex Hex
At this point Chris and Will left to head to the pub and celebrate Chris' birthday (drunkards). Jason pulled three cloth bags out and said he had a game called Hex Hex so we decided to give it a go. He then pulled a massive deck of handmade and handwritten cards as he had lent his copy to somebody else and never got it back. It's essentially a game of hot potato with some cards that dictate the movement of the bomb; definitley not intended to be overthought or strategised, this is a fun game. Graham didn't seem to enjoy it much, he in particular disliked the loose nature of the turns and that many game effects were dictated by who could slam their card down fastest. I loved this though and was happy to find it has been reprinted recently and is still available.

Incan Gold
Andy had joined us during Hex Hex so we decided to go back to play Incan Gold again. We played the first game and then added the Artifact's for the second game which added a nice little extra to the game without feeling particularly essential.

Smash Up
Graham and Mara left at this point so Jason, Andy and I decided to play a game of Smash Up. As it was Jason's first game we decided not to use the Cthulu Expansion and Madness cards and instead just use the base set. Jason played Wizard/Aliens and scored 12points, I was Tricksters/Dinosaurs with 14 and Andy won with 15 as Zombies/Ninjas.
