I think you should accept that by saying you think you might make your own home brew version of the game, you are going to be labelled as a pirate.
I won't deny, I considered it, but from the point I conceived this thread, through to post it up and, this very moment, I still haven't.. So I don't think I'm a pirate just yet. However, people who have made their own versions of this game, and advertised the fact within this thread haven't had anything thrown their way. Which just goes to show how selective some people are in taking the moral high ground.
I think the difference for me is that I don't mind being called a "pirate" if you define piracy as copying a game for one's personal use. With such a strict definition, the slur doesn't matter cause I still don't think I'm doing anything wrong.
I further acknowledge the moral murkiness of the matter so whatevers, if you think its wrong, that's cool...but making my own copies of games for my own personal still isn't gonna cost me sleep at night....but at least I do grant that they have a legitimate stance/position, even if I disagree with them.
To be honest, I'm with you. I certainly don't think I was doing anything wrong when I raised this thread, and if I did make my own copy I really don't think I'd lose any sleep over the matter.
I just think people are being a bit presumptuous with the accusations in this thread, and have actively pursued those preconceptions with a staggeringly tenacious stupidity that you'd rarely find outside of the Internet. So, whilst I can appreciate that some of the opinions expressed here may be genuine, and founded as far opinions can ever be, the ignorance of others through out the thread has only served to undermine their points.
It's like putting together a campaign for world peace and then having George W. Bush chime in that you have his full support. He's just blown your credibility out of the water, so how can you really expect people to take your point on-board, no matter how valid it is?
On the topic of piracy though, I wholly agree. Whether you engage or not is simply a matter of morality. Some people do, some people don't and, who are we to judge unless we have "clean hands". So, if you've ever downloaded an MP3, a movie, A PDF that you should have paid for, Photocopied materials without permission, or any number of "offenses", who are you to judge?
