Step #1: Grab a pair of pliers and use them to grip a stand by the prongs that hold the monster. Make sure that you're gripping the center of the prongs, not too far to one side or the other.

Step #2: Grab a hairdryer; put it on a heat setting (as opposed to just the fan). Point the hairdryer at the bottom of the stand while applying slight pressure to the pliers and watch the prongs closely; when you see them incline slightly towards each other stop heating the stand.

Step #3: Insert a monster into the stand and make sure that it fits snugly. If it doesn't, then repeat step #2; if it does, then hold it in front of an air-conditioner for a several seconds to allow the plastic to cool and set.

My stands now work better than when they first came out of the box, and at no extra cost to me.
