I agree that it primarily comes down to how much you enjoy it for its value and I can guarantee you that i will enjoy a well put together product more than a homebrew version of it.I certainly disagree with the point that the components are poor quality and though the components may be simple they are well done.
Saying that you enjoy the game but are unwilling to pay for it thus will make your own... yes alot of us will find that disrespectful.
