You aren't just paying for the material components of the game but for the time spent designing and creating the game. Just as when you buy a book or a painting, you aren't just buying the paper and ink or the frame and canvas.

This is true, but I don't buy art either.

Secondly, King of Tokyo isn't a rip off of Godzilla. It is an homage to the kaiju genre which existed long before Godzilla or even movies if you go by mythology. As such, the notion that the game designers don't deserve respect because they're basing their work off of previously established ideas basically means that NOTHING is of any value, since I guarantee EVERYTHING is influenced and partly based on some previous idea or concept.

The context I made my point in was in response to a suggestion that I cared nothing for the IP of others. I never said that the designers didn't reserve any respect, but I did make the point that Kaiju certainly didn't fall into the domain of their IP.. This is Space Marines and GW all over again, and I can't believe that I'm really having to spell this out, but here I am!**

King of Tokyo is a great game, and I've gotten more than my money's worth in terms of hours of enjoyment I've gotten out of it. If you appreciate the game too, it's strange to dismiss the work of the creators.

Yeah, definitely didn't do that. Nor have I suggested you all go out and make your own copies. The point of this thread IS and ALWAYS has been just how little value for money I feel this game offers. Yes it's enjoyable, I'm not arguing that, but it does feel that cheaped out on the component front. My argument that you could make your own copy with relative ease was the illustration of this point.

Not an advocation of piracy as it has been suggested more than once, or a dismissal of the work put in at the R&D end of this game.

Still people seem to read whatever the hell they please into this thread.

Finally, if you just like making clones as a hobby, then go for it. But there's no need to justify it beyond that.

Just to be clear, I don't clone games as a hobby, but you are right that laboring the justification of my stand point seems to be a fruitless exercise, so maybe I should just let it stand for itself.

** I'm still NOT breaking into people's homes, NOR kicking their puppies in the head.
