You seem to equate illegal with immoral. It's almost like you're saying that since copyright can't be effectively enforced, it doesn't matter if you copy other people's ideas.
Other people in this thread are saying that if you copy someone's ideas, it's wrong, even if it's a legally fuzzy area. So of course they're going to take exception to you doing said copying, the same way they would if you were saying you were going to break into someone's house or kick a puppy.

I'm saying nothing of the kind. That's just what other people are inferring based upon their interpretation of my OP. Wrongly inferring. Wrong because I don't equate legality to morality (legality equates to geography), and wrong because they have no idea what I consider moral / immoral.
So I would ask these people exactly how they feel about all the folks that have made home-brew boards and components for various games here on BGG? They've shared their work, where I had no intention of doing so, and the main component of the game (the deck of cards) would in my case be an original work.
As a side note, I would never break into someones home, nor kick a puppy. Ordinarily that wouldn't need pointing out but some people really do enjoy jumping to conclusions (i.e, he didn't deny it! It must be true!!)
