I am sorry you read my reply as short. I like to go to the point and don't see any reason to run in circle when the answer is simple.
I still don't see how someone can play a card AFTER someone reach 20VP since the game is OVER. The part about surviving the turn just address the simultaneity of getting 20VP and losing life AT THE SAME TIME.
