(This is not one game session, but a blur of sessions)Just got the game this week after a carefully planned trade where the kids gave up Castle Panic to get KoT. I was surprised my son wanted to let go of Castle Panic, and I was concerned that he might not like the trade. After a week of VBS, we sat down to play King of Tokyo on our Friday night "game night".
My son, eager with anticipation, had the game already set up to play when I got home from work. "You know son, we do need to eat supper, and clean up the kitchen before we play".
Finally we get down to play, and I choose "Giga-Zaur", because, well Godzilla is cool(although I like the looks of Kraken and MekaDragon too). My son and I do some trash talking between his MekaDragon and my GigaZaur waiting for older sister to get done with chicken chores. She comes and grabs CyberBunny (not that she's into pink being a girl, because she loves blue). We start the game rolling and "oohing" and "ahhing" over the cards. Meka Dragon does us in finally to my sons satisfaction, even though Cyberbunny was making a run for it with the "Jets" and "Plated Armor". My 6 year old has problems losing even though she likes the game. Immediately, I'm bombarded with "can we play again?". I almost never hear that, they usually want to play something else in the collection even though they enjoyed themselves. So, I swap out Giga-Zaur for the Kraken, and we begin again.
The next game was more interesting as we got a better feel for the game. I eventually came out on top by eliminating everyone. I really pressed my luck in the last round to deal out damage to my son. I eliminated my oldest earlier with a +3 damage card. They again immediately wanted to play again. This time they ganged up on ole Kraken as he sailed up to 19 points. They knocked the Kraken down together, just to see later that he had a child! With my VP reset, they seemed a little smug, but the wiley ole Kraken came back to snuff them both out. It was getting kind of late, because that last round went long with my Kraken being brought back to life.
Saturday morning, bleary-eyed, and not really awake, I hear the stomp of feet down the hall and the door opening, "Daddy, let's play King of Tokyo!""Alright, give me a few mintues to get awake!", I replied.
I eventually stumble down for the "Kraken" to hopefully continue its winning streak (2-0). Let's just say, the dice were not kind to me. One time I played too conservatively and CyberBunny (my oldest) sails to 20 points for a win. The Kraken had a bad morning and couldn't get "cracking" as my daughter said. I was 0 for 3 that morning. My son won his second game out of the seven we played in two days!!!
I don't recall any game in my collection having this affect on my two oldest children. My daughter now wants to get her hands on some polymer clay to make her own monsters to add to the game. My son wants the expansion. Man...what has happened to my kids???
