This is why you should pay attention to your opponent's VPs...
And Yes sweeping is a perfectly valid strategy, not only for VP winning cards but also to deny your opponent powerful cards (ie wings) which you cannot afford to buy at the end of your turn.
Just be careful not to sweep and inadvertently set up your opponent with the winning card ;)
