You're right, but doesn't automatically disappearing cards do the same? Would you need to raise the cost of sweep at the same time?

After all, anyone who complains that there is nothing good to purchase can sweep the cards. And anyone who sees there is something too good that they can't afford but someone else can, wants to sweep the cards.

Not as much. Only one card gets swept per round, and it's always the oldest card. Players can see which card is going to get the axe right away, so they won't save up to buy the card furthest from the deck.
