We played this at the game store sometime last month and absolutely loved it. We finally purchased it for ourselves and sat down to play. I played Meka Dragon while my husband Will played Cyber Bunny. It was a nice short game, around 20 minutes. I really like the diversity this game adds to our collection as we mostly have heavy euro games. This is a nice light-hearted, yet still strategic game.

Early in the game, I stayed in Tokyo, not taking much damage as Will couldn’t seem to roll any claws even though he bought Extra Head after only a few turns. I eventually got down to 4 life with 17 victory points and left Tokyo. While Will did a good job of taking me down a few points of life, I was always able to heal back to 4. I struggled up to 19 points after a few rounds. Will got up to 16 victory points and that’s when I knew I had to work hard to win, but he also knew he couldn’t let me back in to Tokyo as I would win immediately.

Thankfully, I was able to get the Shrink Ray, which changed the game. While Will had bought Complete Destruction a few rounds previous, my shrink ray prevented him from having enough dice to activate it. He got Urbavore too late as I killed him before he had a chance to use it.

Throughout the game Will used energy to refresh the cards a lot. So I didn’t bother much with collecting energy as he kept getting rid of the cards I wanted. I focused on either getting victory points, healing or attacks. Eventually I got in enough damage in one turn and killed him.

I found the two-player version quite fun, but definitely a different dynamic than having more players. It’s a little safer to stay in Tokyo so I feel there’s more strategy to planning ahead. With more players, you really can’t predict what’s going to happen or if you’ll last till your next turn. It’s more chaotic, though that’s not a bad thing as the game is supposed to be a bit chaotic. I just appreciate the two-player game for what it is, but will also enjoy it with more players as well.

I can’t wait to get the expansion and see how the monster-specific decks affect gameplay.
