So i'm assuming that everyone has heard of this one card called 'Complete destruction'... if you haven't the card basically costs three energy and has a very specific keep ability: If you can roll 1 of each result of the possible 6 sides of the 6 dice at any one time you gain 9VP!!!Now that sounds like an incredibly large amount of VP for a single card but to be honest the chances of rolling one of each result are the same as rolling 6 claws or 6 hearts etc.. it simply just doesn't happen and means that the card 'Total Destruction' is not as powerful as it seems sadly.
I recently just got the game and absolutely love it. Most importantly for myself and my friend, who I generally play most games with, both of our girlfriends enjoy playing it with us -which is great.
So we're in the middle of a four player game. Nothing that exciting is happening. My friend is hoarding energy like crazy as usual and the girl friends are exchanging light hits in and out of Tokyo with myself. I had gotten a little bit of energy by luck as I don't really like playing the long run energy VP strategy and prefer to be in Tokyo on lots of health doing the damage to everyone.
The problem was that the rolls were forcing me into VP and energy so I guess I had to take them. Eventually my friend bought a card called Psychic Probe that allowed him to re-roll a die of each monster once per turn. However if he rolled a heart with that result the card got discarded.
So the game goes on, damage is being exchanged. I'm in last place in terms of both VP and health. Then the card 'Complete Destruction' came up. I had nothing to lose and had the energy to buy the card so thought that I might as well pick it up. It is pretty fun after all chasing those results even if they never come.
Having bought the card however I realised that I had made a catastrophic mistake. My friend's Psychic Probe ability meant that even if I did manage to pull of the extraordinary feat of getting the 6 results then he could just re-roll any of them to negate me getting the VP..... great...
The game went on with VPs gradually going up with everyone. I had got to 7VP....woo... but everyone else was in the mid teens. At least my health was getting better so I felt I should go into Tokyo soon. Then my friend got a bit carried away with his Psychic Probe ability to reduce a bit of damage dealt on him and rolled a heart. He discarded the card and which meant I was free to go after my impossible feat. on 7 VP and everyone low on health it was time to get into Tokyo. I dealt some damage on Tokyo and managed to get in- up to 8VP. Everyone was so low on health that they barely wanted to attack me. Gets to my turn, now 10 VP. I was still a good 5 VP off the lead. Same turn happened again although I did take a few hits and I remained in Tokyo.
So it comes to my turn again. I take the 2 VP and want to dish out as much damage as possible. First roll: Get a single claw- not ideal. Needed more claws so re-rolled 5 dice. Had a the claw already so with the 5 new dice I got: Heart (great can't use that i'm in Tokyo), an energy (not really what I need now either) and a 1 a 2 and a 3...
It took me a few moments but suddenly I realised I had rolled the perfect combo for complete destruction and took me to 21VP to win the game!!
Everyone was simply gobsmacked...
Was the best game of King of Tokyo I had ever played bar-none.
Anyone else pulled off this feat? I admit it was pure luck but wow was it fun.
