I've played many times with 6 players and a couple of times with 7 (using the promo creature from the geek store.) It plays great with 6. As for early player elimination, this can happen with any number of players, and the game doesn't last that much longer with more players.
Can you comment on how it went with 7?
I'm on my christmas break in the province and I taught KoT to my neices and nephews, and it is a big hit. I've had to oversee 3 7 player games, and I must say it plays just the same as a 6 player game. The groupthink here is go for claws then vacate tokyo when they get hit, but surprisingly in the last 2 games it was the player who went for VPs who won (eater of the dead helped in 1 game, as that many monsters getting killed is a lot of VPs for the player who owns the card).
That's what I love about this game. It is so easy to teach even to kids around 8 yrs old. This makes KoT a great gateway game.
