We have regularly played with 5+. We enjoy it. yes, it's giant monster Yahtzee, but the game is enjoyable. Having the 2 spaces in Tokyo is fine, works well with them "temporarily joining forces" to attack (and be attacked by) the rest of the players.Just got the expansion, and even tried playing with 8 once by making an eighth evolution deck with one evolution card from every other monster. It played fine. The evolution makes it more interesting, because you have to decide if you want to keep those hearts you rolled in Tokyo or if you're already at max health.
Sure, we've had somebody killed in turn 2 when he was in Tokyo and chose to stay in after taking 5 damage, only to have someone else roll 5 damage and kill him. That just meant he played on the iPad while the rest of us finished the game.
