Gaining the extra energy cube is the entire point. It is the only point. There is no other point for that card to make.
What is done with that advantage is up to the person playing.
Buying energize if I can afford it is an absolute no-brainer. There is no draw back whatsoever to it. As soon as I buy it, a new card takes its place. I now have one more energy than I did before I bought it and have a new card to choose from to buy.
You can buy more than a single card every turn. Lots of options can open up with 9 energy.
