We just opened this last night and played a couple of 3-player games which went pretty quick and were quite fun and entertaining. My 12 year old daughter won the 2nd game and demanded that we all call her the Queen of Tokyo. My older daughter who didnt win either game said "I wont be calling you the QUEEN of Tokyo "This morning my older daughter asked if we could play a few games of King of Tokyo with just 2-players. We played 3 very quick games and she won 2 and I won 1. In the first game I was the first one to roll a Claw and went into Tokyo, so I got 1 point for going into Tokyo. With the other 5 dice I had 4 3s and a Energy for 4 more points putting me up to 5 VP before she even had a turn. She did not roll ANY attacks on her turn so I stayed in Tokyo and got 2 more VP for starting my turn in Tokyo. Is that the right way to score it in a 2-player game? You still get 2 VP everytime you start your turn in Tokyo? I was up to 18 VP in no time and actually eliminated her without her ever going into Tokyo. Obviously she had some really poor dice throwing luck with hardly ever getting any claws. I think I was down to 2 Hearts when I eliminated her.
In games 2 and 3 which she won, she got into Tokyo first and although I was able to force her out of there a couple of times by concentrating on only keeping Attack dice, she got to 20 VP very fast and we finished all 3 games in about 30 minutes.
Were we doing something wrong or is this how the 2-player game is meant to be played? I realize this game probably shines with 4-6 players but are there any ways to put some more strategy into the 2 and 3 player games? We do have the Panda Power Up expansion but have not used it.
Any sugggestions for the 2 and 3-player game would be appreciated. The good news is that both of my daughters enjoyed the game and said they can't wait to play it when their friends come over
