King of Tokyo isn't for everyone.

If the following statements apply to you, you may not like King of Tokyo:

"I don't like games with luck, randomness, chaos, chance, etc."
"Rolling dice makes me cringe."
"I only play games where I can guarantee a win through my superior tactics and/or strategy."
"I play games to demonstrate my intellectual superiority over others."
"If I'm not guaranteed to defeat an inferior player, then why bother playing a game at all?"

King of Tokyo is a rethemed Yahtzee with player interaction. The first time I played it, my comment was "This is the best rethemed Yahtzee I've played." Most other Yahtzee rethemes are essentially multiplayer solo experiences (see Elder Sign). King of Tokyo has direct interaction and enough meaningful decisions to make for an enjoyable experience nearly every time with all but the most die-hard strategy gamers.

P.S. Regarding 50 minute games, the longest game of KoT I've played was about 35 minutes, and that game dragged because non-gamers were having trouble grasping the rules and/or purpose of the game, and it was eventually decided by VP total because no one wanted to keep their attack rolls (or in some cases, were unable to roll attacks to take advantage of the other players' peaceful attitudes). Players were keeping three 1's because they wanted to avoid rolling hits. Usually our games last between 5 and 20 minutes, with the occasional 3 minute quicky (e.g. get into Tokyo on turn 1, roll six hits on the next turn, roll 6 hits on the next turn - my girlfriend seems to be able to execute this sequence on command).
