I love the drafting variant, and the energy addition sounds interesting - can't wait until I can get people together for another game!

I think I would modify your energy modification slightly, with the regular gaining of stars for arriving and staying in Tokyo, and the earning of an energy cube for staying while others smack away at you.

I also wonder if a 5-card draft is too many. If each person was dealt 4 cards and was allowed to keep 3 after the draft (discarding the final card a la 7 Wonders), I wonder if it would keep the deck draw more relevant.

Either way, thanks a bunch for your great ideas!

That seems the most logical conclusion. Did you see in the rule book where it makes that assertion?

It's right next to the rule that says you can't use a lighter to set your opponents' cards on fire.

Really what is the point of having the cards if no one can look at them???

Me, three, for a set of engraved dice. My game's only a month or so old, and my non-engraved bones are already showing serious wear.

So best I post this here, now, so's I get a heads-up on any updates as they happen.

Yeah, I think 5 is a lot. I'd think maybe 4 total (5 cards and 1 discard) or even just the 3 + 3 available to everyone. Or maybe you can buy cards that opponents have but you pay them the energy or pay 2 energy to "wipe" their cards -- could result in some interesting dynamics, although it would add more politics to the game that tends to avoid them.

Wonder if there will be official variants in the expansion. Really hope there are!

How about earning BOTH cubes and energy when entering and staying in tokyo? Gives the players multiple avenues to win while in Tokyo..the value is the same as printed (ie 1 to enter, 2 to stay in).... Makes Tokyo and Tokyo Bay really worth it.

Thanks.
Ask her to show the rule that says the cards are to be kept hidden.

Wait, when you attack, do you have to take Tokyo? Or only have to take it if Tokyo is empty?

Hey Guys,

So I've ordered all the expansions and have recently got my hands on a new copy of King of Tokyo and am currently designing new monsters to push the game to 8 players for my larger gaming groups.

Problem came when I took out King from the new game... the scoring track is completely off center. I think number 1-3 are clear and then from 4-16 it goes below sightline and then from 17-20 it's fine again.

Obviously this needs to be replaced + the supplier should know about it.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement character/ new dice for my old game?

Thanks,
Ardamaeus

If you attack, and the monster in Tokyo yields, you must take Tokyo. If they do not yield, you do not take Tokyo. If it is empty, you must enter Tokyo.

You put your right foot in, you put your right foot out. . .

Man I love this game.

I sent them an email through their Customer Service.

I'm trying to get a replacement base for the monsters. We'll see what they reply... :what:

I can't see playing with 8 players. Your monster would have to sit through 7 turns before scoring a bonus for starting their turn in Tokyo. If you ask me, I think you'd have more fun playing two copies of the game concurrently. You could switch players back and forth, with the top two from each game playing one another in the second round, etc.

Yeah, I agree. Keep the points and add the energy cubes once per turn (but not your own) everytime a new player starts their turn and you're in Tokyo.

I also think starting your hand with 2-3 randomly dealt cards (assuming they're all "keep" cards) would already make the game that much more exciting. Heck, randomly dealing out properties to each player before the game is one of the best Monopoly variants out there

I have to agree on the surface of things, but what if you did SIMULTANEOUS PLAY?

So player 1 and Player 5 are playing at the same time. ?? Then when the numbers drop to 4 players or less, you would just "drop back" to a single player playing, just like you drop back to a single space in Tokyo?

Of course, you'd need two full sets (for dice and for Characters and possibly cubes).. but still might be interesting. :)

I cut the bottom of the insert as to store sleeved cards on edge, including the 11 promo cards. I added a piece of foam to take up the additional space, but it will be replaced with the 56 cards from the Power Up expansion.

I'd say you're developing a new game then: If a monster leaves Tokyo, which one of the attackers moves in? How do you resolve timing issues on cards? Who gets first choice on buying new abilities? You'd better get busy on a variant rule set, because I think you'll have a boatload of such questions to deal with.
:)

I have two questions about the "Rooting for the underdog" card:

(KEEP: At the end of a turn when you have the fewest :star: gain 1 :star:)

1. Does the effect apply at the end of EVERY player's turn, or just your own? I've taken it to mean every player's turn as otherwise it seems much too weak

2. Does the effect work in case of a tie for fewest :star:?

After consulting with Richard, here is the official answer:

1. The effect only apply at the end of YOUR turn.

2. You can't be tied and must have the absolute fewest :star:
